Circulatory System may traffic in whimsical notions, and use pastiche as a mode of expression, but unlike most, they are plumbing the depths of how one can use the studio to orchestrate the utter bliss that pop music brings. Somewhere between Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks, and other sources of American weirdness lies the perfection of this estimable and stunning work. „Mosaics Within Mosaics“: the title speaks volumes.

Musikalisch gab es bei meinen vielen Aufenthalten bei den Heimspielen des BVB (früher im Stadion Rote Erde) natürlich nur selten was anderes als Mainstream. Dennoch  habe ich eine aus der Kindheit herübergerettete Gänsehaut, wenn „You’ll Never Walk Alone“ (unsere Hymne und ein humanistisches Leitprinzip) erklingt. Einmal freute ich mich wie Bolle, Jahrzehnte ist es her, als „Road To Nowhere“ von den Talking Heads erklang, einer der fröhlichsten pessimistischen Songs der Pophistorie. Und dann lief, kurz vor seinem Tod, auf einmal ein altes Stück „BRD-Geschchte“ über den Rasen, während sein grosser Hit ertönte: Drafi Deutscher! P.S.: Auf dem Foto (bitte anklicken!), Sie sehen es, die deutsche Fahne fernab falscher Grösse. Es lebe die „Ochsenabwehr“, und morgen dann, zwei Jahre nach Italien, Null Euro ins Phrasenschwein: „Geschichte wiederholt sich“ vs. „Özil aus der Asche“!

Ich las heute in der Rheinischen Post, dass Monthy Python nach 30 Jahren zurueck sind. 361 Jahre sind sie zusammen alt. Eric Idle is my favorite. Auf youtube, passend zur laufenden WM mal den philosopher’s world cup ansehen. Germany versa Greece. Archimedes scheint besonders speedy gewesen zu sein. Natuerlich bekommt Nietzsche die Gelbe Karte, wer sonst. Und hahaha Marx at his best: offside!

Soul Jazz Records is  very excited by these two tracks of stunning Egyptian jazz – both previously unreleased and released on the excellent Art Yard label. Recorded in Heliopolis, Cairo circa 1973, both sides of this 45 offer up a distinctly north African take on traditional jazz sounds. „A Tribute To Sun Ra“ comes across like some long lost Moondog track, full of snaketime percussion and Egyptian horns. Backed with „Latin In Cairo“ a curious mix energetic, calypso / Cuban melody. Limited to 500 copies and pressed on 180g vinyl.  If I do belong to the happy 500, side one will be played in my next „Radionacht Klanghorizonte“ on Aug. 16th. (me)

… here they played Bob Ostertags All the Rage for the first time. I remember visiting the rehearsal with all the complex voices, screaming coming from the tape and a complicated viola part for Hank Dutt. Before the concert talking with John Sherba and Hank about Nathan Milstein (John is a Fan of his playing too) … sent him some tapes I made from a swiss summer course with Milstein later.

… believe me or not – during my years in Frankfurt I often visited the Saturn Hansa near my apartment. On this day I could not believe my eyes when I saw the Kronos Quartet standing around in my favourite CD shop … thats when they signed my Black Angels CD.
