Kelis and her soul-funk-jazz-mix full of subtle delights
Manafonistas | Filed under: Blog | RSS 2.0 | TB | Comments off
„Is „Food“ a guilty pleasure? Yes or no, so what!? This album is honest, heartfelt, soulful and disarming, retro and contemporary. Kelis treats us to a smokey backroom populated by jazz royalty and her decadent voice, which carries a tinge of growl like a high cocoa count chocolate dish. The food metaphor is loose; her major topics are love and friendship, frank and formative. It’s a leap into a world of brass beauty.“

Lost In Dimensions (1): Architecture

Natürlich macht so etwas niemand wirklich.

… the most boring, pretentious, unbearably uninspired records …

Also komm runter. Und lass den Oberlehrerton.
lg Michael

The most boring, pretentious, unbearably uninspired records of 2014 (so far)

1) Bugge Wesseltoft: OK World
2) Brad Mehldau & Mark Guiliana (Mehliana): Taming The Dragon
3) Todd Terje: It’s Album Time
Three examples for oh-so-groovy, jazz-flavoured world music, mega-cool post-fusion prog jazz and incredibly nice dancefloor playground music. No cheap cliche that you won’t find here, with a degree of perfection that could be called courageous if you wouldn’t feel the urgent need to shoot your speakers. In the end the music might find its way to the after hours parties of the Rotary Clubs of this world, to the car discos of local drug dealers, and to The Walt Disney theme park of utterly meaningless happy-sad music. A Love Of Empty Trains

I cannot say how much I appreciate Karl Hyde’s diary (new on our blogroll). So, as it happens to me when reading good poems or sharply cut short prose, my eyes come to rest wandering around the words without any hurry. So, today, another higlight that doesn’t seek for attention, egoless, but fully awake: A LOVE OF EMPTY TRAINS
