What an expensive and slightly deranged hotel near St. Pancras, the wonderful old station with that giant clock and its old Roman numbers. On this journey, three records only are on discreet rotation in my oldfashioned discman, from Lucinda, Marianne and Scott. He’s called „Walker“, but the music of SOUSED is best played in silent corners of the town, on old wooden benches. Her name is Williams, and DOWN WHERE THE SPIRIT MEETS THE BONE is good for long walks in Highgate Cemetery and Hampstead Heath. Faithfull: nomen est omen, and this record is something to dance to invisibly, a quiet rave anywhere between London Bridge, the Docklands and Trafalgar Square. GIVE MY LOVE TO LONDON, for all the sentimental reasons, one being Mr. Eno singing 13 seconds in a Cohen cover. Somebody asked me if I would be excited or nervous to meet „The Walker“ tomorrow. Not really.  I even decided to not play any „smart Alec“-game. No Gertrude Stein questions! :) I read two recent interviews, I have three central questions in the back of my mind and will be improvising the rest. And then, in the evening, my first long visit in a church since 1978. There they play, on a possibly fantastic sound system (old Jamaican?), the music of SOUSED. That’ll be something.

Drei neue CDs zu Hause warten darauf angehoert zu werden.

Kann mich nicht erinnern, wann zuvor ein Albumtitel allein mich neugierig genug gemacht hat, eine CD nach Hause zu tragen: „Joy In Spite Of Everything“ heisst das Album und stammt von Stefano Bollani. Ein schoenes Motto fuer ein Album und vielleicht etwas, was man ebenso als reminder ueber die vor uns liegenden Herbsttage haengen kann ?

Anyway. Ausserdem neu: „Lullaby and … the Ceaseless Roar“ von Robert Plant; auch da bin ich einmal sehr gespannt. (Wird vermutlich interessanter als die „Led Zeppelin“ Remaster sein. Die Wiederveroeffentlichung der „Led Zeppelin“ Klassiker gehen gerade in die zweite Runde !)

Dazu das neue Album von Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood, das – zumindest was die Besetzung angeht – an das „A Go-Go“ Album anknuepft.

Schon jetzt, wo ich von den drei Alben noch keinen einzigen Ton gehoert habe, wirkt auf mich eher abschreckend, dass die neue CD von Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood, „Juice“ betitelt, 3 Coverversionen aufweist: „Light my Fire“, „Sunshine of your love“ und „The times they are a-changin’“ …

Wer haette gedacht, dass uns John Scofield einmal mit Eigeninterpretationen dieser doch mehr als altbekannten – moechte fast sagen: bereits zu Tode gecoverten – Songs aufwarten wuerde ?

Aber ja, ich verstehe schon: man soll erst anhoeren und dann urteilen – und diese drei Songs waren dem Quartet immer schon eine Herzensangelegenheit: man musste diese Titel fuer das Album einfach einspielen. Schon klar, jaja.

Und mir wird auch gerade sehr klar, dass das Anhoeren der drei Alben mit der Bollani CD beginnt. Genau so.
