A good friend has asked me days ago what’s this thing with people talking too much. How I would see it as a psychologist? Well, you can never say something without knowing the person and his history. But, generally speaking, it’s dysfunctional social behaviour. If someone talks too much, it can produce severe forms of headaches, even migraines. If someone talks too much, without interruption, without dots and commas, it produces varying brain wave-patterns of high activity in certain parts of the neocortex and older systems of the brain. This all can lead to an overload of the central nervous system including a broad palette of stress symptoms, high blood pressure, tics, psychosomatic symptoms, etc. It is important for hyperactive people to get to know the power of breaks, of quietness, of patiently listening to the person in front of you so that the relationship of the talking time is 50:50 meaning every person of the dialogue occupies quite the same amount of time speaking and listening. If someone talks too much, it can even produce severe forms of headache and migraines within the person who is listening and listening and listening and listening for a long span of time before becoming an active part of the „conversation“ again. Meditation is helpful (stay away from TM!), autogenic training, muscle relaxation a la Jacobsen. Even deep listening to ambient music a la Eno or Budd. It can all be part of a much more complex thing that requires psychotherapy. Now, this friend of mine couldn’t tell me a lot of details about the other person’s story or history (i didn’t know him at all, i even never saw him), so I could only make general suggestions.

Herr Wundersam wunderte sich so sehr, dass ihm die Schüssel mit Salat aus der Hand glitt. Er konnte sie nicht aufheben, denn er wunderte sich nun ausgiebig über das Zerschellte.

Dass etwas im Argen mit der dt. Radiolandschaft ist, haben die aufmerksamen Leser meines Blogs schon oft gelesen. Vor kurzem hatten wir hier erfahren was in Frankreich passiert ist und wo der neue Hörfunkdirektor von Radio France, Mathieu Gallet, mit dem Slogan antrat: „Mehr Musik, weniger Musikwissenschaft“ – ihr erinnert euch.

Dieses Statement hat Hans-Jürgen Linke zum Anlass für seine Kolumne, in der neusten Ausgabe der Jazzthetik genommen. Dort beschreibt er anschaulich was in der jetzigen dt. Radiolandschaft los ist und vor allem, was uns noch erwartet!

Alan Bangs hat das besonders tragisch zu spüren bekommen, wohin die neue Richtung im Radio geht. Erst wurde er von DRadiowissen geholt und gefeiert (für viele seiner Fans war es ein Fest) um dann später gehen zu müssen. Sein kritischer Geist, seine unkonventionelle Art Musik zu spielen, die ihn interessiert – das darf nicht mehr sein. Heute nicht mehr … (Seine letzten Nightflights gehören zum Besten was ich je im Radio gehört habe!)

Leider fehlt bei H.-J.Linke diese Geschichte von Alan, obwohl sie doch ein Paradebeispiel für das Thema seiner Kolumne wäre … Langsam aber sicher werden die Programmdirektoren und Intendanten die Kostenfalle zu schnappen lassen. Es zählt die Quote, das Geld.

Jetzt, wo wir alle zahlen müssen, fängt das große Zählen an, wird Qualität durch Austauschbarkeit und Quote ersetzt. Das alles hat H.J.Linke in seiner ganzen Perfidität beschrieben. Die Chefredakteurin der Jazzthetik hat mir den kompletten Text (Vielen Dank!) der Kolumne zur Verfügung gestellt, welcher in der aktuellen Ausgabe vom Sept./Okt. zu finden ist. Also lest selbst und bildet euch eine Meinung dazu …
