Often, it is awful, a waste of time, and you doubt that people who really love this saccharine kind of so-called heavenly music will find anything else but fake satoris. But, in the beginning, in the early years, and at least in the hands of a few artists, you can find excitement and passion. Mike Powell has written a fine review on a collection of, well, archetypal new-age music going back to a time when the term hasn’t been coined yet (s. Review of the Month). If you do despise everything in this genre, well, then stay cool and listen to „The Heavenly Music Corporation“ by Fripp & Eno. It’s fucking dark and a lot more, and it’s definitely not new age music. (In my next edition of  „Klanghorizonte“, on Dec. 7th, you’ll get to know two of these explorers of soundtracks for spiritual awakening, and, be sure, there will be a good counter-balance for that within the same 55 minutes: a horror film soundtrack that has become a classic!)

Neulich für eine Party dachte ich mir, ich wähle mal Platten aus und wir spielen diese den ganzen Abend. Dafür habe ich dann ca. 50 ausgewählt.
Von John Cale über Joni Mitchell, von Miles Davis bis zu Ella Fitzgerald …
Ich war gespannt, wie es ankommt.
Diese Kiste wurde wurde von allen geplündert, die Cover bestaunt und besonders die Einleger mit den weiteren Veröffentlichungen des Labels. Das war mal Standard. Die Älteren waren verzückt, sie überlegten, was sie selber alles hatten. Und für die Jüngeren war es ein Erlebnis der besonderen Art.
Besonders gefragt waren die Alten: Django Reinhard & Stephan Grappelli with the Hot Club Of France, Ella und Oscar Peterson. Miles mit seinen Classics, Joni Mitchell: The Hissing Of Summer Lawns. Später dann Nightmare Of Wax, sowie Little Axe und Tony Allen.
Große Resonanz fanden Foyer Des Arts mit ihrer ‚Unfähigkeit zu frühstücken‘.
Alles in allem war es ein besonderer Abend.
Kein Mix, der durchlief, jeder hatte mit seiner Auswahl einen Teil dazu beigetragen.
Es war bestimmt nicht der letzte Plattenabend …

In the beginning Jack refuses to write poems, but his teacher, Miss Stretchberry, presents one poem after the other to the class and she encourages the kids to write poems in a similar way. Miss Stretchberry starts with William Carlos William´s famous “The Red Wheelbarrow”, she goes on with Robert Frost´s “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, she presents visual poetry, poems about pets and so on. Jack becomes more and more enthusiasthic about poems while experimenting with various writing possibilities. His feelings circle about a special theme and as he writes one poem after the other and one of his favourite poets even visits his class he manages to get along with his sorrow. Although this book seems to be written for children it shows also adults what it can be like to start the process of writing poems. It is an adventure that chances us and can make us free.

Ich empfehle die Originalfassung, die ich kürzlich sogar mit Audiokassette erworben habe. Das Buch ist jedoch auch in deutscher Sprache erhältlich. Hier sieht dann der Hund auf dem Cover ein bisschen anders aus.
