Das passiert auch nicht alle Tage. Über das ECM-Hauptquartier in Gräfelfing bekam ich heute die Antworten auf meine neun Fragen zu seinem am 27. August erscheinenden Solo-Bass-Album „Overpass“ als audio files zugestellt, hörte sie mir an, und war schlichtweg begeistert: sachlich, ruhig und beseelt zugleich, jede Antwort. Punktgenaue Analysen, persönliche Erinnerungen, die eine und andere Anekdote und Momentaufnahme, und obendrein, en passant, ein künstlerisches Credo ohne jeden Anflug von Schwärmerei. „Overpass“ habe ich mittlerweile ungefähr ein halbes Dutzend mal gehört, es wird sich einreihen in meine Handvoll Fünf-Sterne-Alben am Ende des Jahres. Zudem gehört es jetzt schon zu meinen zwanzig „favourite ECM covers ever“, und das will was heissen – wie sagte ich neulich zu Lajla in Düsseldorf, zu allerbestem Boeuf de Bourgignon: „ich kann mich einfach nicht sattsehen an diesem Bild, und es passt so wunderbar zur Musik!“

Alle Antworten (bis auf den einen hier, in dem Marc Johnson etwas zum Cover errzählt) werden auf dem Blog bis Ende August anzuhören sein, aber zuerst gesendet im Deutschlandfunk, in den JazzFacts und den Klanghorizonten. Nun bleibt mir gar nichts anderes übrig, als im Laufe der Radionacht nicht nur an seine zwei „Bass Desires“-Alben auf ECM zu erinnern, ich werde zudem Dave Hollands Solo-Bass-Klassiker „Emerald Tears“ mit hineinnehmen müssen (zu interessant Marcs Aussagen dazu, um darauf  verzichten zu können), und vielleicht auch eine magische Version von „Nardis“, von Bill Evans oder John Abercrombie. Vielleicht haben Herr Klinger oder Mr. Whistler oder sonst jemand eine Lieblingsversion dieser berühmten Jazzkomposition.

Apart from possibly great concerts, you can meet the duo Giese & Engelbrecht who are (most of the time) extremely funny and can laugh you under table, bets on! We will stay at Hotel Norge and regularly be at Mother India, Norway‘s best Indian restaurant, and hope to share some company.  If you are fully vaccinated and have the EU vaccination certificate, the rules of today are full rock’n’roll:
