Ich sehe mir gerade Mats Eilertsen an. Grossartig, der Sound, der Raum, die visuellen Elemente, Fionas Einführung aus England, tief im Wald, mit Edgar Allen Poe auf den Lippen. We‘re all connected, Fiona! In more or less sentimental ways:) Manfred should produce a Mats Eilertsen solo bass album.

  2. Michael Engelbrecht:

I onceasked Mats about three of his all time favourite albums, and this is what he wrote …

Choosing albums like this always changes through out the years, but I´ve tried to choose three albums being important at an early formative stage for me, revolutionary in discovering the values of playing together, shaping forms and curves as an ensemble and playing in ways that open my musical mind at an early stage while trying to decipher the abstracts of music, chords, tones, sounds, timbre, dynamics etc both in bands and at the bass

Personal Mountains; Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Jon Christensen, Palle Danielsson; ECM

Wonderful musicianship, fantastic forms, dynamics, curves, pulses, playfulness, abstract transitions, lyrical passages, so (a)live, strong songs, improvisation, presence, conversation between musicians. Wish I was there. Formative for me in many ways as a musician

J.S. Bach „Goldberg Variations“ Glenn Gould

Bach has a relaxing effect and these pieces are fully shaped and contrast each other even though the musical language is very Bach, very perfect, diatonic but so clear and cleansing. And the performance from Gould! Just so crystal clear, taking the music into his own possession, forming it, forcing t into his own way of shaping it. So his.

    Weather Report „Black Market“

Weather Report was an important change for me when I started to play the bass.

I started listening to rockmusic and the first jazzalbums were more traditional bebop and early jazz Great music and mindblowing at the time!

But when I heard Weather Report and Jaco, (also Alphonso Johnson and Miroslav Vitous), the bass had such a different role in the band. Playing the melody, affecting the whole sound of the pieces, playing an orchestral affecting part, not only in the bottom register atking care of the bassnotes.

And their music was just so different affecting my way of listening and hearing tunes and compositions.

Dass ich das mal erleben durfte.
Hätte mich ja nie nach Kristiansand
    verschlagen …
Sind Sie live dabei oder aus der Ferne schauend?

Welch kleine Audience. Ist das sonst auch so
    ausgesucht besucht?
Scheint auch ein angenehmer Ort des
    Geschehens zu sein.

    Mats Eilertsen: Sehr schöne Atmospherics
(meine dünne Leitung scheint für streams
    nicht gut geeignet…)

Arve Henriksen / Eivind Aarset / Jan Bang
    «The Height of the Reeds»
    – wie nah die Stimme von Henriksen am Klang
    seiner Trompeten ist …
    – auch schön, mal zu sehen, was der Bang
    eigentlich macht.
    – nennt man sowas »zeitgenössische Avantgarde«?
    – verhuschte, verhauchte, und um die Ecke
    kommend ins monströse potenzierte
    Protuberanzen, solar fire
    – sehr schöner lyrischer Ausklang

  4. Michael Engelbrecht:

DIE LINKS SIND SO GESCHALTET, DASS MAN LIVE DABEI SEIN KANN UND DIE KONZERTE NOCH BIS ZUM 11. SEPTEMBER NACHTRÄGLICH ANSEHEN / ANHÖREN KANN.

    ….
    ….

  5. Olaf P.:

    Frode Haltli / Erlend Apneseth
Wie spannend ein Akkordeon klingt, wenn keine
    Schunkelweise drauf gespielt wird! Herrlich
    schattierte Klangfarben. Eine Windharfe
gespielt von des Atlanten Lunge. Liebe sowas.
Erinnere mich, ähnliche Klänge in dem Opus
von Leo Philipp Schmidt zuerst (und zuletzt)
gehört zu haben. Thirty years ago. Was sich
so alles festsetzt! Unglaublich auch das
    zarteste Tirilieren seit Endeckung der
Obertöne. Frode Haltli, den Namen muss ich
mir merken. Aber auch Erlend Apneseths
    Fideleien jubilieren im Tippelschritt,
    entwerfen Gegenwelten zur melodietrunknen
    Rhythmik. Zusammen zeichnen sie ein
    klischeefreies Bild voll zerbrechlicher,
zerbrechender Harmonien. Wie blutarm ist doch
meine Sprache gegen die Reichhaltigkeit ihres
musikalischen Dialoges … Für mich das beste
    Konzert, vielleicht auch wegen der
    »Greifbarkeit« der Vollakustik.
    herzlich grüßend
    Olaf (Ost)
! Nochmals dankend für den link !
