Any Decent Music

„Since we’ve been around, that is. So, the highest-rated albums from the past four years or so.“ This says the webiste anydecentmusic.com that collects reviews in the wide field of pop and rock music. What you can learn by this list, is that records that get quite or very controversial reviews won’t count among the best, they have to surrender to „the big common sense factor“. Just have a look …

8.9 Frank Ocean Channel Orange 8.9 Deafheaven Sunbather 8.9 Anaïs Mitchell Hadestown 8.8 Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 8.7 PJ Harvey Let England Shake 8.7 My Bloody Valentine mbv 8.6 Ry Cooder Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down 8.6 Kendrick Lamar good kid, m.A.A.d city 8.6 Arcade Fire The Suburbs 8.5 Patty Griffin American Kid

So, the critically most acclaimed reviews have to be handled with extreme care and an extra meta-critcal point of view. With all due respect, I do only love the Frank Ocean- and the PJ Harvey-albums. Arcade Fire, for example bores me to death with their „Suburbs“- record, Ry Cooder’s „Dust“ is far from being a highlight of his career, the new My Bloody Valentine-cd is a rather mixed pleasure – and tomorow I will have an intense listening session with the death metal-excursions of Deafheaven, hope the neighbours won’t call the police!
