Burnt Friedman loves this music, Elvis Costello loves this music, and Manafonistas might love it, too.

MAHMOUD AHMED — YALEM BAYTEWARNEGN (1974)
Mahmoud Records
Superb super-super-rare unplayed Ethiopian original vinyl in original sleeve.

Awesome vocals of Mahmoud Ahmed and the killer Dahlack Band.

Ahmed is one of the legendary figures of the Ethiopian music scene, who rose from being a shoe-shine boy to handyman at the Arizona Club, after-hours hangout of Haile Selassie’s classic Imperial Body Guard Band, where he got his first break as a singer. The Derg coup in 1974 led to the Ethiopian music going back underground after Selassie’s earlier easing of restrictions.

This Ethiopian record came out on Mahmoud Ahmed’s own label in 1974. It is very rare!

These records are the bomb! (So said Soul Jazz Records Headquarter, London)

… a small collection of extreme rare singles … every single  costed a little fortune and has doubled its value easily…sold out in a few hours….and one of these strange treasures are played in the next edition of „Klanghorizonte“ … (ideal fooder for Greg’s jukebox! the friend’s price: 40 english pounds! :)) – m.e.

This is the one I just ordered: it will be played in the KLANGHORIZONTE in April, for special reasons …

Es hat alles in Jerusalem angefangen!

  4. Michael Engelbrecht:

Mittlerweile wird meine in den Klanghorizonten gespielte Single für 230 Euro im Netz angeboten, wahrscheinlich schnappt ein Edel-DJ in Dubai jetzt zu. Es gibt 5 Exemplare, Henning. Worldwide.
