Über sein zweites Jane Album schrieb Harold Budd:
It’s simple. I broke out and broke back to my earlier days: A triangle of risk, improvisation and joy – as I say, very simple. My rules to myself were: No plan, no notes, no ideas, no microphones; except for Jane 1 I stuck to it. My other rule – the most important one – was: At least one piece per day, finished, mixed and not to be revisited again. Jane 7, 8, 9 were done in one day … Brad Ellis was my guide through this: An untiring day, ready to go again … To quote a letter to me from Mark Tobey: … „It fell off the edge of my brush.“

Wer ist „unser Host“?
Ich habe vor langem tatsächlich ein oder zwei Phoner mit ihm gemacht, bei einem sass er in London irgendwo, beim zweite ging es tatsächlich (glaube ich mich zu erinnern) um das Werk namens Mesa ((?)), das tatsächlich in der Wüste da entstand. Ob er da in einer Telefonzelle stand … mhmm, irgendwie surreal.

Jedenfalls gab es 1996 noch Telefonzellen:)
„Luxa“ z.B. ist schon seit längerem meine Lieblingsplatte von Harold Budd gewesen. Sehr interessant war von Budds Arbeitsmethoden zu hören (solche Regeln klingen immer vertrauenswürdiger als z.B. Kategorien wie „Inspiration“). Wahrscheinlich hab ich „Luxa“ auch bei Dir zum ersten Mal gehört.

ja, 1996, kurz nach der Veröffentlichung der Kooperation mit Andy Partridge. Die Indizienkette scheint überzeugend, und fürwahr, es wirkte sehr surreal, gerade deshalb habe ich diese Moderation nie vergessen können. Die Mojavewüste wurde so etwas wie ein Sehnsuchtsort für mich, das schafft Musikjournalismus nur sehr selten.

Was thinking about Harold Budd. I had missed his departure last December but discovered it a month ago or so. He was one of my harmony teachers at Calarts and was an amazing guy. This was before Eno and Cocteau Twins. He was just beginning his ambient music journey. His first album, The Oak of the Golden Dream was out. I visited that tree! He was a great teacher- would often play beautiful chords at the piano and go into a kind of trance. Loved sound, beauty, mystery. He encouraged me to go my own way. A wonderful artists and human being.
