Humid Tobacco

von: Michael Engelbrecht Filed under: Blog | TB | 2 Comments

When I was 18, I was somewhere at an English coast, in the south, the edge of a town, maybe Brighton, I had bought a pipe, and the tobacco was called Mac Barren‘s Blend, or something like that, a Scotish tobacco. It smelled and tasted wonderful, but the tobacco was quite humid (feucht?), so when I started smoking the pipe with my long hair and a „Baskenmütze“ on my head, well, that was kind of cool. I was sitting on the dock of a bay. In fact, I thought I might have looked cool, but the fire went out quickly. I had a book with me, about pipe smoking, and, after some reading, I tried to do it the right way. Never really got it. Sometimes enjoying the uncool is the real fun. A good remedy to laugh about yourself.

Had the same problems round that time (the „Mac Baren socialisation“) – in Torquay and at home near Bremen. One aspect is: the pipe has to rest a while to be dry enough for sucking up the moisture. That´s one reason why pipe smokers have several pipes.

I only had money for one. Oh, these under-privileged baby-boomers!
