Dear Friends,
On July 10th my new CD/Project was released on the Songlines label. Entitled Some Places Are Forever Afternoon, it is based on 11 poems by the iconic Northwest poet Richard Hugo.
The CD is available in a variety of places listed below. I had very mixed feelings when I received notification the other day that my new CD is „now available on Spotify.“ Yes, you can go there and listen to the music or download the music for free in any number of places but I would like to make the case for buying the CD.
(1) It is the right thing to do. It is not only a matter of supporting the musicians, but also one of the very few labels that continues to support new music, jazz, and improvised music. You can be sure, unfortunately, that no one is actually making money. Yes, various people were paid, but there is no „profit“ involved. When you buy the CD you really are supporting a group of entrepreneurs who essentially are lucky to break even.
(2) The package is lovely. All the poems, and incredible photographs, an essay, and all the other information.
You can purchase the CD at bandcamp.com, amazon.com, songlines.com or at my website. Those of you in Seattle can pick up a copy at The Royal Room for only $10. Thank you so much and I hope you enjoy the music!
Best, Wayne (Horvitz)
