There are some impressive albums out in 2013 that, as different as their aesthetics may be, follow love’s desaster to rock bottom, not forgetting moments of bliss (which can be even more painful:) They all succeed in delivering even the most tragic stories in a surreal, uplifting manner. Devendra Banhart has done it with MALA, John Grant with PALE GREEN GHOSTS. And Dan Michaelson, me oh my, you should listen to „SUDDEN FICTION“, and then you will probably be keen to listen to the ultimate „X-ray of loneliness“:) John Cale would love it, Leonard Cohen would love it, Joanna Newsom would love it, Paul Buchanan would love it, Kurt Wagner would love it. Roy Orbison would have loved it. But I really don’t think Brian Eno would love it. – M.E.
