Most of the years I‘ve been at this festival, and it was Arve Henriksen who invited me here first place – after our long conversation on music (and his approach to the trumpet) on the island of Lanzarote. He played Jameos del Agua in 1999, I think, being part of Christian Wallumrod‘s trio (Manfred Eicher produced their fine album „No Birch“). The festival musica visual di Lanzarote closed its caves at the end of last century, and PUNKT was a kind of natural sequel. Somewhat surreal to experience the release concerts of, for example, The Eivind Aarset 4_tet, after presenting it in my last radio night. One night, years and years ago, some of us journalists joined Jon Hassell, and in that Norwegian pub that had nothing exotic or fourth world-like in its ambience, I introduced Jon to the great-great daughter of Gustav Mahler who was a cellist in a Symphony Orchestra. And that was special. Punkt has always been about the closing of circles. Sometimes they close after ten years or so. This is Punkt 2021 – and Punkt 2011. Welcome.
