    I think reggae’s history is full of great compilations, Soul Jazz Records and Trojan Records come to mind at first. Arkology is a fantastic journey through the most creatve decade of Lee Perry. If anyone thinks, there is a better Lee Perry opus, standalone or whatever, say it – and tell the stoy, please!

    1991 gab es bei Zweitausendeins mal für wenig Geld eine 3-CD-Box namens „The Roots of Reggae“. Die ist noch immer zu empfehlen — alles drauf, was man als Existenzminimum braucht.

    Die „Arkology“ ist natürlich ein ganz besonderes Schätzchen. Allein schon zu hören, wie oft der Mann dasselbe Playback verwendet hat … Für mich noch immer eine wunderschön absurde Vorstellung, dass dieser Typ heute in Zürich lebt (*wenn* er dort noch lebt; ich meine aber, das sei so).

    Leonard Cohen und Ibiza, oder wo er da war, das passte natürlich. Und Jon Hassell auf Mallorca – alles gut nachvollziehbar. Aber Mr. Perry in der Schweiz: da hätte er eigentlich mal ein Konzeptalbum raus machen müssen. Mit Ovomaltine statt Ganja. Ein paar gute Trommler gibt es da ja.
